The Danger of Rationalization

The power of rationalization is an insidious force in a person's life capable of wearing down some of a person's most important values.

The rational commandments (Judgments) are more prone to rationalization than the Testimonies, and the Statutes. These have small and large components, respectively, of superrational reasoning,

That's why the Torah alerts us that if we will only keep the Judgments, we are deserving of the detailed tremendous reward in the beginning of the parsha.

"And it will be that if you only listen to the Judgements..." Devarim 7:12, from this week's Torah portion, Eikev, Deuteronomy 7:12-11:25

Based on the writings of Rav Shlomo Wolbe
